A young man trying his luck at the races - it wouldn’t even be noteworthy if it wasn’t for the fact that the man in question is a Count! And, even if he’s a foreigner, he is still a respectable enough seeming character, so the odds are against him.

The bookmakers is having a field day with this new participant. The first race he loses and comes in third - because he is new. The second race he comes second place because he’s too chivalrous to the Turkish Girl. But the third... it is as if the young man was destined to win. He flies across the fungus, faster than lightning - and he wins! And wins big!

The lucky few who put their money on him can’t help but smile. The crowd is entranced by this handsome though uncommonly shy runner. Everyone wants to know - will he be back? Will he run again? No one knows, not even the runner in question - but his sunny smile, and his outlandish performance, will be the talk of the racetrack for quite some time.

[do let me know if your character was there to cheer him on, bet on him, or otherwise was there to see him triumph. <3

Short stories

Angel
- a dark anti-fairy tale about the poor choices made by an angel in love. Published in Midnights. Pretty good for a first attempt at writing something else than poetry though there is certainly room for improvement.

The marvellous adventures of Edwin and Rufus I, II, III.

- a set of short stories about a child and his trusty toy dog and their adventures in the boys imaginary world. Cute, sentimental and harmless at first glance, but ripe with subtle allusions to physical and emotional abuse on closer inspection. (For those in the know it’s not hard to guess it’s heavily based on Eskil’s own experiences as a child.)

Midsommar
- a short story about a young man getting lost in the forest during midsummer night in Sweden. Folklore mixed with romantic descriptions of nature and fairy-tale influences.
